Tournament Rules

Just a few days left until our annual tournament this Saturday, August 20 (Sunday if it is raining Saturday). I hope everyone is getting excited. This is a very fun event and is really meant for all levels. Don’t hesitate if you thinking of participating- you won’t regret it. And it’s also a great day for people to come together and watch all the water events. Events will run one after the other so wakeboarding and surfing may happen earlier or later than planned dependIng on participation. Participants must have a full membership and those coming for the BBQ starting at 2 pm should purchase a social membership.

Here are the tournament rules:

Waterskiing: 7 am start but show up anytime before 9 am

Skiers may choose to start at any speed / rope length, however must complete a full pass to get credit for all slower speeds / longer rope lengths. If they fall or miss a ball on the first pass they get a “rerun”.
3/4 course competitors that make all 6 balls at top speed (34 MPH) this year must compete in the full course next year! No short-lining.

Wakeboarding – 11 am start

Wakeboarders get to complete two passes of the course (green balls to green balls). You are allowed one fall, after the second fall you no longer qualify for additional points.

Surfing – noon start

Surfers get one full length of the course (green balls to green balls) to surf. You may choose to surf with or without the rope, however surfers that decide to keep rope will automatically be graded lower than ones actually surfing, regardless of tricks. You are allowed one fall.

Wakeboarding and Surfing are judged based on 3 categories: Intensity, Style, and Execution.

SLSBC Update

What a great start to summer. Tessa’s clinic was awesome and lots of fun despite the rainy Sunday. And it was great to see so many people at the social on Saturday.

Unfortunately, we have to cancel the July 9-10 Boardroom Demo weekend. We are going to try and reschedule for later in the summer and if not this summer, we will try for next summer.

It’s Summer!

Happy summer solstice everyone! School is out (or almost out) and the lake is about to get a lot busier. In the spirit of being a good lake neighbour, we have put together some ‘lake etiquette’ tips:

  • avoid driving too close to people’s docks
  • drive slowly when close to shore
  • avoid activities (e.g. tubing and surfing) that churn up the calm morning water until after 10 am
  • drive in straight lines when waterskiing

A link to the full document is here. A while back, we also put together tips on boat driving that can be found here. Finally, we want to be more proactive about fixing the ski courses or docks – if you notice any issues with either please email maintenance@slsbc.ca.

July 2-3 Clinic: The first weekend clinic is SOLD OUT! If you missed your chance to sign up or want to more chances to improve your techniques, there will be a second clinic coming up Aug 6-7. We are lucky enough to have BC Junior team members, Christopher and Jonathan Horwood, who won gold and silver at the 2021 Canadian Nationals, coming to Sakinaw Lake. Stay tuned for more information and details on how to sign up for this clinic in the next few weeks.

July 2 SUMMER SOCIAL: We are having our first summer social since 2018! Meet up with folks around the lake and start the summer off right. This will be held at the McGurk cabin in Square Bay (with the yellow umbrellas) on Sat, Jul 2. Festivities will begin at 2 pm. Please bring an appy with you and we will provide drinks, hamburgers, and hotdogs. We are looking for volunteers to grill and are also need an additional BBQ – if you can help with either please email us at info@slsbc.ca.
