SLSBC Mid-Summer Social Tomorrow 2PM

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder that tomorrow at 2PM is our Mid-Summer social.

As a fun contest, let’s see who has the oldest SLSBC swag!  Bring what you think is your oldest SLSBC swag, we will have prizes!

Thank you again to the McGurks for hosting!  Their place is at the end of Square Bay (with the yellow umbrellas).  Bring an appy to share.  We’ll have soft drinks available.

And if you know anybody who might be interested in helping with, or joining, the club going forward, please invite them!

See you all tomorrow,

Sincerely,

Your SLSBC Executive Team

SLSBC Update and Mid-Summer Social

Hello everyone,

You’re probably wondering what’s been going on with the Sakinaw Lake Ski & Board Club this year. First an apology that this wasn’t sent out to everyone sooner.

  1. Both the North and South slalom courses are (as of July 13th) ready to go!  Thank you to Mark Aplas, Brian Welch, and Michelle Ross for getting the ski courses ready for the season!  It takes a lot of help to maintain the courses throughout the year, so if you notice missing buoys or other course issues, there are spare supplies in the dock box on the ski dock.  If you aren’t sure how to repair the course, send us a quick note and we’ll make sure it’s taken care of.

  2. Over the winter break we purchased a ton of club swag!  Stop by Trina’s and she can show you what we have for sale. Trina will be at the lake on the July 27th/28th weekend, and from August 1st to 23rd.

  3. We don’t have any summer clinics or our annual tournament planned for 2019.  Going forward we need new members to join the executive to organize our summer events and help run the club.  If you know anyone who might be interested, please let us know.  To decide on the next steps for the club, and see who would like to help out…

  4. We’re holding a mid-summer social on August 10th at Ted and Bev McGurks from 2PM – 4PM.  Their place is at the end of Square Bay (with the yellow umbrellas).  Bring an appy to share.  We’ll have soft drinks available. Again, thank you to the McGurks for hosting. If you know anyone who might like to help organize club events going forward, please invite them.

Sincerely,

Your SLSBC Executive Team

Thank you to everyone that helped out our executive this summer, whether it was driving boats, cooking food, judging, hosting, etc. We couldn’t have done it without you!

And we would like to thank all of the sponsors for this years tournament. The Blackfish Pub, The Boardroom, Coast Paragliding, Columbia Fuels Sechelt, The Earthfair Bookstore, Gibsons Building Supplies, Lululemon, Madeira Marina, Madeira Park IGA, Marina Pharmacy, Molson Coors, Oak Tree Market, Petro Can in Garden Bay, The Sunshine Coast School District, Swish Ladieswear, Trail Bay Source for Sports, and Zocalo Fashions all supported our tournament this year. And a very special thanks to the Zimmerman, Cameron, Burlin, Grimm, and Muench families who contributed some fantastic prizes of their own this year.

Annual Tournament Saturday August 18th

Hi everyone,

We are excited to remind you that this Saturday, August 18th, is our annual Sakinaw Lake Ski & Board Club tournament!

We welcome participants of all ages, regardless of abilities, including those who have never skied the course! Come out and have some fun and laughs. First time in a ski competition? Don’t worry, we have categories for both adults and kids who have never made it through the course!

If you prefer being in a boat, rather than behind one, come cheer on the “excellent display of water skiing talent cruising the lake” – Sunshine Coast Tourism.

7AM Waterskiing
10AM Wakeboarding
11AM Wakesurfing

All events first come first served.

Join us on the dock at 1:30PM after the competitions for hot dogs and hamburgers, with some sensational awards at 2PM from Lulu Lemon, The Boardroom, The Blackfish, Columbia Fuels, Petro-Can, Swish, Zokolo, Madeira Pharmacy, IGA Madeira Park, GBS, and more!

If we end up behind schedule (not unheard of!) we’ll send out updates throughout the day.

Also we have some great draw prices, including paragliding off Mt. Hallowell (tandem with instructor), Cocktail Cruises with lake celebrities, and Fishing Adventures! All club members and competitors eligible for the draws.

The forecast looks great, but in the event of rain, we will postpone the tournament until Sunday August 19th.

We are still looking for pickup boats for Wakeboarding. If you’re available, let us know.

Hope to see everyone there,

Sincerely,

Your SLSBC Executive Team

As a reminder, only full club members can participate in the tournament. Renewal is quick and easy, Click Here to renew your membership if you haven’t already.

We’re Back!

Hello members,

After a year-long hiatus, we’re excited to announce the Sakinaw Lake Ski & Board Club is back for 2018!

First of all, as we recently announced, Ken Johnston is stepping down as President. I’d like to sincerely thank Ken for all the work he put into the club over the past 7 years. Many of our events take a lot of effort to plan and organize, and Ken has contributed a considerable amount of time and energy to ensure they happen. Also Ken has offered to remain as Past President while we transition to a new executive. Thanks Ken!

Ken has graciously nominated me for President, and Genevieve Hassan, Niki Boyd, and Barry Krangle have all volunteered to step up to the executive. As this is your club, we hope to see all of you at our AGM this spring to vote in the new executive for 2018.

With our new additions to the club executive, we’re excited to be planning events for this summer. This club exists for the benefit of all of you, our members, so let us know what you’d like to see for 2018. Lessons? Socials? And as its only through all of your support that this club exists, if you’re willing to help with events, please let us know.

We plan to hold the AGM on the May long weekend, so stay tuned for details, and we hope to see you all there.

Thanks,

Andrew Ames
