What a Night!

The first boats arriving for the concert

Last Saturday night, the Sakinaw Lake Ski and Board Club hosted the first ever floating dock dance on the lake. And what a night it was! More than 400 of you came out to enjoy the festivities in about 65 boats. Poppa Greg and the Chillin’ Dylans – aided by our own Barry Krangle on harmonica and Guff Muench on accordion – fired off two outstanding sets to the cheers and howls from our incredible Sakinaw Lake community. Hopefully, we can turn this into an annual event!

This idea was dreamed up by Barry Krangle and was made into a reality by the efforts of Barry Krangle and Gord Cameron who secured the band, with huge help from Brian Welch and Mark Aplas who tuned up the dock, power washed, and adjusted the floats. Gord Cameron and family put hours into cleaning up the destroyed tent, removing the fittings, transporting the band and setting the scene for a perfect evening. A huge thanks go out to all of them for their efforts in bringing us this event. Sakinaw Lake ski and Board Club is ready to receive your memberships, sponsor clinics, and talk competition, so stay tuned.

Thank you all for such great support and spirit and welcome new members.

CONCERT ON THE LAKE!!!

Poppa Greg & The Chillin’ Dylans

Live music from the ski dock! The SLSBC will be hosting Poppa Greg & The Chillin’ Dylans on Sat 24th from 6:30-8:30 pm. We want everyone to come and enjoy the live show! Listen from your property or boat. This is going to be a really fun event so spread the word around the lake!

Ski Clinics and Course: We hope everyone is enjoying the ski course this summer. Tessa Campbell hosted a fabulous ski clinic this past weekend and helped a lot of kids and adults improve their skiing. If you missed it, there will be a second clinic Aug14th-15th. Course maintenance is a lot of work and is done by a just a handful of people for the enjoyment of the entire Sakinaw Lake community. Please take care around the course, as the balls can be dislodged quite easily and this can be dangerous for waterskiers and boaters. Tubing and wakesurfing in the course is discouraged for this reason. If you notice a loose ball or problems with the course, please email info@slsbc. ca to let us know. Loose balls can also be placed on the waterski dock. For a refresher on safe boating, check out last year’s post here.

Photo Contests: The photo contests haven’t stirred up much interest this year, so we are going to cancel the last two weeks of contests. Hopefully people are moving away from virtual connections and back to face-to-face interactions!

Last year’s week #2 winner: Jake Hassan

It’s Friday, July 2nd, and Photo Contest #2 has started! And we are one week away from Tessa Campbell’s first weekend clinic. British Columbia has officially emerged from its 67 week state of emergency and I think we can all look forward to a fantastic summer. As always, the contest will run for six consecutive days, starting Friday morning (today) and ending Wednesday, Jul 7th at 7 pm. During that time, post your best watersport pictures with a caption under the Facebook post announcing the weekly contest. If you don’t have a facebook account, you can email your picture with a caption to info@slsbc.ca and we will post on your behalf. People can ‘like’ any pictures that they think are deserving. The photo with the most likes by end of day Thursday, Jul 8th wins! If you can’t get a photo posted this week, please remember, there will be a new contest starting Friday, July 9th, 2021. Tessa Campbell’sJuly 10-11 Clinic

In less than two weeks, Tessa Campbell will be running her first of two summer 2021 weekend clinics. This clinic is not just for slalom waterskiing. Tessa can also teach wakeboarding and beginner surfing. If you have already signed up, don’t forget to complete the online waiver. Email completed waivers to info@slsbc.ca. There is still some space left and you can sign up here. The cost is just $50 for two 30 minute sessions, or $30 for one 30 minute session. This clinic has space to run eight 30 minute sessions on each of Sat and Sun mornings (7:00am-11:00 am) and six 30 minute sessions on Sat evening (6:00pm-9:00pm). We will try our best to accommodate people’s preferences for session times, but may have to condense the sessions depending on how many people sign up. This is a great price and a super chance to learn surfing or to improve or learn skiing or wakeboarding. If you have been trying to get your kids out on the water, sign up for this clinic and let Tessa get them started! Participants are asked to provide their own boat and driver. If you are interested in participating and need help with getting either a boat or driver, email info@slsbc.ca and we can try and help.

SLSBC Decals Available

Thanks to Garth Johnson, we now have SLSBC decals for sale! Decals can be purchased for $10 each or $20 for three decals. They are approximately 4 inches high and 12 inches long and made of good quality vinyl. They have a wax paper protective film that peels off once the decal is applied – the paper has not been removed in the image above which is why the decal doesn’t look clear. They should last you at least five years, depending on sun exposure. They are designed to be placed on glass and are very difficult to remove from other surfaces (paint, fiberglass/gelcoat etc.). But from glass, they can be removed using a razorblade without damaging the glass.

If you are interested in purchasing decals, you can send a private message to Garth Johnson via facebook or email him directly (garth@bwlog.ca).

2021 Newsletter!

Hi everyone,

The Sakinaw Lake Ski & Board Club 2021 newsletter is out! We have had to modify club activities this summer (and last summer) due to Covid-19, but we have a few safe events planned, including a couple of weekend clinics led by our own talented Tessa Campbell, and a virtual tournament led by Gord Cameron. Barry Krangle has worked his magic to get a band out to the lake for some live entertainment and we will continue with our weekly photo contests and the end of summer Guess Where? contest. Details can be found in the newsletter here.

See you at the lake!

Sincerely,

Your SLSBC Executive Team
